From The Warwick Advertiser
For any restaurant to hang around for eight years, it must be doing
something right. And the Backyard
Grill & Cafe on Forester Ave., Warwick, continues to be one of the most
popular restaurants in this area.
“Bill creates a different specialty every night”, said Colly Lecch.
“And that’s why our menu is always new and interesting.”
Owners Bill and Colly leech serve breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days
each week. On Saturdays and Sundays
they offer a popular brunch featuring favorites such as eggs Benedict, mimosa
and cappuccino. One of the many
reasons for the success of their eatery is that they personally supervise and
share management responsibilities on a daily basis.
“It’s cooking with a twist”, said Colly who describes her
husband’s adventurous creations as full of flavor with Asian, Cuban and French
influences. And everything is
prepared from scratch. Breakfast,
for example, might include scrambled eggs with pesto or French toast made with
fresh baked challah bread. For lunch
you might try a fajita or a steak salad served with onions and cheese.
At dinner there are the specials along with grilled fish, chicken, ribs,
steaks and pastas followed by gourmet class desserts.
Beer and wine is also served. Almost since first opening in 1995, The Backyard Grill & Cafe has offered its wall space to local artists.
The
featured artist now and for the next six months is Warwick resident James Amore.
The artist is well known for his sports genre painting, local scenic
watercolors and, recently, acrylic paintings of colorful birds.
Amore, who earned his Bachelor of Science degree in art education at SUNY,
New Paltz, said that the beauty of the Judson Valley inspires him.
his watercolor, Rural Warwick, featuring a scene with a yellow pick-up on
a country road, was the winning entry for the WVT Communications 2000 - 2001
phone book cover. About 23 of his
Giclee prints, signed and numbered, are on display at the Backyard Grill &
Cafe. All can be purchased at the
restaurant or by calling the artist at 986-1221. |
